Peshawar: the former Ambassador of Pakistan to Afghanistan Rustam Khan Mohmmand said on Saturday that the democratic government is the key towards ending conflict Afghanistan and bring peace in the country and as well as in the region.
He expressed these views in a workshop titled “Peace and Conflict resolution in 20th century” held under Staff Training Institute ,University of Peshawar.
He said that that presence of coalition forces is the biggest cause of conflict in Afghanistan and until their withdrawal peace would remain to be an elusive dream in the country. US and its allies till date have spent fifty seven billion dollars for the socio economic development in Afghanistan but little can be seen on ground and today we see one thousand Afghan every day go towards
the Iranian border for earning a piece of bread.
The unemployment stands at 35%, sanitation is available to 30%, intense insurgency prevails in 24 provinces affecting almost 70% of the population in Afghanistan, he added.
The former political agent blamed poor policies of the government as the root cause of insurgency in FATA.
